Art
At Mather Street, our art, craft and design curriculum equips all learners, particularly the most disadvantaged, with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life by exposing them to a wide range of artists. We endeavour to deliver an exciting, innovative curriculum, which enables and empowers children to be highly creative across a wide range of mediums. Our curriculum content is driven by the pupil’s topics within their humanities lessons. It is further supported by imparting knowledge regarding how art and design both reflects and shapes our history and how it also contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. Our pupils are to be taught within a cyclic approach, which spirals and builds progression year on year. It is driven by artists, year group coverage, skills and challenge. As pupils mature, they will be provided with opportunities to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. We strive to develop pupils' ability to develop a wide skillset which they will then utilise in a final project at the end of their school life with us. This will be showcased by the pupils empowering themselves to choose how they will create their final project.
Art Overview
n nursery and reception throughout the EYFS curriculum, the children are given opportunities to explore different materials and be creative. They are then introduced to a more formal art curriculum.
