Computing
At Mather Street, we believe that the development of computing skills is vital to ensure that children are equipped for the next stage of their education and beyond.
We understand how important it is that children develop their technology skills so children in nursery and reception use a range of technology to support and enhance learning in other areas of the curriculum. For example, the children will continue to use the Bee-Bots when learning about direction and will use Ipads to listen to and watch animated stories, watch videos linked to our topics and play games to develop phonic and number skills.
In KS1 and KS2, we follow the Purple Mash computing scheme of work. This provides the children with the opportunity to carry out a variety of tasks using different types of software and hardware in order to develop their coding skills and meet the aims of the National Curriculum 2014.
Alongside computing lessons, we support the children's digital literacy through the use of computers and Ipads within lessons to supplement their learning. We use a variety of apps aimed at enhancing the foundation curriculum as well as developing the children's competency in computing skills through the use of powerpoints, word processing and excel.

We understand that e-safety is an important area of concern and have a specific e-safety policy which is displayed in all classrooms. Teachers ensure that children know how to use the internet as safely as possible and are aware of the procedure for reporting material which may be unsuitable.
