PSHE (including statutory Relationships and Health Education).
The school uses the Jigsaw Programme for Primary PSHE including statutory Relationships and Health Education, It has a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, The programme of study is a spiral, progressive scheme of work which gives the children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.
It is a whole-school approach which also includes mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus. Jigsaw consists of six half-term units of work (Puzzles) which are taught through six lessons (Pieces). Every Piece has two Learning Intentions, one specific to Relationships and Health Education (PSHE) and the other designed to develop emotional literacy and social skills. Each year group studies the same unit at the same time (at their own level), building sequentially through the school year, facilitating whole-school learning themes.
The six Puzzles are:
- Being Me in My World
- Celebrating Difference
- Dreams and Goals
- Healthy Me
- Relationships
- Changing Me
When we consulted with parents about the RSE policy, we shared the Jigsaw materials and we received positive feedback about the programme of study.
